MPO Cable Specification Checklist Before Ordering

Short answer: identify the connection role, product family, fiber count, fiber class, connector configuration, polarity, length, and quantity before choosing a listed MPO cable. Order only when every displayed option matches the installed system. If an option does not match, do not substitute another configuration; contact customer support before ordering.

A description such as “MPO cable, 10 meters” is not enough to select a cable safely. The same length can appear in a trunk, patch, or harness connection, while connector and polarity details can differ. A written checklist helps prevent a mismatch before checkout. On GTfiber product pages, the selectable options are Length, Connector A, and Connector B. The other checks below concern product specifications and installation compatibility; they are not additional selectable options or instructions to customize an order.

Start with the cable's role

Determine where the cable sits in the complete connection. A stable rack-to-rack backbone generally points toward a trunk cable. A shorter MPO-to-MPO equipment or panel link points toward a patch cable. A route that divides one trunk-side connection into smaller connection groups points toward a harness cable.

If the product family is uncertain, record both connection points and the hardware between them. Then compare that path with the product-family descriptions and the options shown on the relevant product page.

Pre-order checklist

Field What to verify Example record
Connection role Backbone, local patching, or trunk-to-branch path Rack A to Rack B backbone
Product family MPO trunk, MPO patch, or MPO harness cable MPO trunk cable
Fiber count Total fibers and branch grouping where applicable 48 fibers
Fiber class The class required by the installed system and equipment OM4
Connector ends Connector type, gender, end face, and side A or side B orientation MPO female, UPC, both ends
Polarity Compatibility between the cable mapping and the installed transmit and receive path; confirm any missing detail before ordering Check against the current installation map
Length The listed Length option and any required branch dimensions; confirm the measurement if unclear 10 m listed Length option
Quantity The number of identical listed cables needed 20 units
Ordering status The exact selected option is shown as available and can be added to the cart Available on the product page

Trunk cable check

For a trunk cable, confirm the total fiber count, fiber class, route length, polarity, and both connector ends. The route measurement should include an appropriate installation allowance without forcing tight bends or poor cable management.

Order record: rack-to-rack backbone; MPO trunk cable; 48 fibers; OM4; 10 m; connector ends and polarity matched to the approved connection record; quantity 20.

These example records illustrate internal compatibility checks, not selectable configurations or custom-order instructions. Choose only the listed Length, Connector A, and Connector B options, and confirm any required specification that the product page does not state before ordering.

Patch cable check

For a patch cable, identify both MPO interfaces and verify the fiber count, fiber class, connector gender, end face, polarity, and length. “MPO to MPO” alone does not confirm that the two ends match the installed hardware.

Order record: panel-to-equipment link; MPO fiber patch cable; 12 fibers; OS2 G.657.A2; 3 m; both connector ends and polarity matched to the equipment documentation; quantity 12.

Harness cable check

For a harness cable, verify the trunk-side connector, branch count, branch connector type, and branch grouping against the installed equipment. Confirm any required branch dimensions and fiber mapping before ordering if they are not stated on the product page. A harness is not interchangeable with a same-connector patch cable.

Example installation check: trunk-to-branch link; MPO harness cable; 8 fibers; OM4; MPO-12 trunk side to two MPO-4 branch groups; listed Length option 2 m; required branch dimensions and mapping to be confirmed before ordering; quantity 30.

Records to check

  • Equipment interface documentation
  • Rack, panel, and port schedule
  • Port map or lane map
  • Installed cable markings and connector details
  • Measured route length and cable-management allowance
  • A previous GTfiber order record when purchasing the exact same listed item again

When to stop before checkout

Proceed with a listed option when Stop and contact support when
The listed product family matches the connection role The route or branch structure differs from the product description
The displayed fiber class, fiber count, and connector options match A required connector, polarity, or fiber detail is not displayed
The available length and quantity match the order record The exact option is unavailable or the nearest option would be a substitute

Contact customer support

If a listed option is unclear or does not match the connection record, do not substitute another configuration. Use the GTfiber contact form or email support@gtfiber.us with the product link and the specific listed detail you need to confirm before ordering.
